Inside and out
Our work continues on the inside of the home as we reach the last leg of the project. Our goal is to present the house to the market the weekend of August 26. With the clock now ticking, John is putting together punch lists and working through them. Many of the last items are not readily visible--completing the final HVAC work, cleaning the attic, making final plumbing connections, and improving electrical service connections. Others are details that make a huge difference when taken together -- installing baseboard trim, trimming around the cabinets, adjusting cabinet doors, replacing all the plugs and receptacles and installing all new door knobs and light fixtures.
Along this line, we made a small change that has a great impact. We calmed down and unified the colors in the master bathroom by resurfacing the accent tile and the tub through a newly developed process. Oh my, even though the final clean up has not been done, you can see how much better it looks.
One of the big questions we have been wrestling with is how to update the front entry. We want to freshen this and make it both welcoming and secure, but need to respect the design of the home. In the past two months, I think we have been through 100 different ideas, drawing them out, then "soaking" on them, as my grandmother would say. The time to decide is now upon us.
Designing the entry also involves adjusting the landscaping in front. Even though the decisions for this area are still in limbo, we needed to go on and clean up the rest of the yard. On Thursday, three men spent eight hours each pulling, cleaning, pruning and mulching. An old, rusted swing set was removed, along with a clothesline that had become entangled in vines. The yard looks so much better, but this is the just the first round of catch up, clean up.
This coming week John and his crew will be hitting the details hard, both inside and out.
