Curtains, carpets

Sometimes we get to learn the story of a home, and this is the case for this new project. The home was part of an estate, and even though the all the utilities were kept on and the home was maintained, the property has not been lived in for almost eight years. The owners faced many decisions about what to do with it and its contents. During one walk through in purchase process, John opened the curtains that covered the back wall and found the wonderful bank of windows that look onto the patio and the yard. It was an ah-ha moment as the seller commented that she had never seen the curtains open and did not realize there were exterior doors and glass in the room.

Carpet covered the floors. The ceilings had a roll-on texture and had been patched in several areas.

This week, we removed all the curtains and carpets. The ceiling is being sheet rocked to provide a fresh, white finish. After this initial work, we were really rocked back by the changes this made in the living area. It is open and so very full of light. We can just imagine how the house will work for families, for entertaining and for everyday living.

Pre-finished hardwood floors will be installed in this area and throughout the house. This hard finish, along with the removal of the curtains, will help keep the home easier to clean and (hopefully) help those with allergies or asthma.
