Although the home on Philadelphia has closed, our part of the process continued on after all the papers are signed and the new owners have taken possession. There are still things that need a bit of tweaking after the sale, and over the past few weeks John has been attending to these.

And in the midst of this follow up, we closed on our next project. It is a larger home, 2,400 square feet, located in the Vollintine Evergreen Community Association (VECA) area -- a vital neighborhood that is close to Rhodes and Crosstown Concourse.

We loved the large trees on the street, the home's proximity to the V&E green line (a bike and walking trail) and the friendly neighbors. The layout of the house itself allows for indoor and outdoor living. There is a wonderful covered patio all across the back of the home, three large bedrooms including a master suite, and a huge open living area. The second bathroom is a retro-delight as the mid-fifties tile is in near pristine condition.

With each home, we begin with and appraisal and an inspection, and these are complete. This information guides our renovation decisions.

Most of the interior demolition to accommodate a new kitchen is done. We designed a floor plan and purchased cabinets, but are still making some final design decisions. The old carpet is out and the floors have been scraped down to the slab.

Because there is such an issue with asthma here in Memphis and because we believe this will make a great family home, we are making finish choices that will help keep the indoor air quality high. We will be using low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints, tile and engineered hardwood floors, and high efficiency air filters to keep the air clean and those who live there healthy.

The paint colors we have chosen are called Hint of Vanilla and Maple Pecan--so we know it will be in good taste.
